Repeated multiplication (exponent)
An exponent is a mathematical operation that
indicates repeated multiplication. It consists of two
essential components:
•Base: The number being multiplied repeatedly.
•Exponent: The superscript number that specifies how
many times the base is multiplied by itself.

(read as “Two to the power of three") means 2
  multiplied by itself 3 times: 2 * 2 * 2 = 8
