rageo PMUtNIX February 21,1974Set Regular Street SweepAs Inital7th ActivityBy John BlackmoreThe newly-formed Seventh Avenue Betterment Committee (ABC), held its third monthly meeting Feb. 14 to discuss plans to upgrade Park Slope%u2019s main shopping street. The committee set March 13th as the target date for its first venture, a thorough cleaning of the avenue every Wednesday morning.Sanitation was the prime topic on the agenda at Thursdays meeting. According to committee member Ms. Burnley Graham, the ABC is anxious to get improvement programs underway as soon as possible. %u201cThe clean-up program is just a first step, something we can get going right away to benefit everybody,%u201d she said. The ABC has solicited the help of Sam Azadian, Chairman of the S. Brooklyn Mayor%u2019s Task Force Office, who was instrumental in starting asimilar program for 5th Avenue two years ago.The sanitation program is twofold. Azadian and other committee members will meet in the near future with police officials at the 72nd and 78th Precincts to encourage them to institute strict enforcement of the No-Parking regulations between 8 and 9 a.m. on Wednesdays. Once the avenue is cleared of parked vehicles, the sanitation department will flush and scrub the street. It is hoped that once such regular procedures are initiated, the persistent build-up of filth and litter along the Avenue will be a thing of the past, the organizers say. Ms. Graham is currently preparing a publicity campaign to inform residents of the new program and warn motorists of the stricter enforcement of parking regulations.WRREHOUSE SUEU5IP Slseveral bun ^ Tehousc %u2014m%u00bb\\\css than Dean St. c >e pricest ^ r J o bid auctl%u00b0n, , %u00a3 iPARTIAL LISTING.Chinese 2 . This information will be submitted to the various city agencies in order to promote action on their part.In other areas, the ABC Architectural Committee, headed by Tom Schmitt and A1 Grossman, has located a photographer who will assemble a complete photographic survey of the Avenue which will be used by the architects as a stimulus for ideas. Schmitt and Grossman have contacted a number of local architects and planners who have volunteered to contribute their talents. Each has been asked to take a different segment of the Avenue to analyze and give their suggestions. The current plan is to assemble the resulting drawings in order to offer the community a comparison among the various concepts and possibilities. ABC members were very positive about such a grass-roots sharing of ideas, where community residents will have the opportunity to participate in the forming of any architectual scheme for the Avenue.Ed ReiNfeld%u2019s Security Committee has further investigated the possibility of instituting a citysponsored merchants security program for businesses along the Avenue. After meeting with Officer Donofrio, at the 78th Precinct who coordinates a similar program for Flatbush Avenue, merchants Reinfeld reported that theprogram, which would include city-subsidies for the installation of modern alarm systems, could not be organized right away. Committee members agreed to continue their efforts in this area as a long-term project.CORRECTION: Mr. Ed Reinfeld was incorrectly identified in the February I4th PHOENIX as the proprietor of Brooklyn Valet. Mr. Reinfeld is rather the owner of Plaza Cleaners.Unveil Plans for LICH Spring BallS TO JO P.
