Philharmonia, to be held on Saturday. April 20, 10 p.m., in the Lepercq Space at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, 30 Lafayette Ave.The event, to help celebrate the Philharmonia%u2019s twentieth anniversary. will pay tribute to Brooklyn Borough President Sebastian Leone, Paul Lepercq, chairman of the board of the Brooklyn Academy, and Lukas Foss, the Philharmonia's music advisor and conductor.Comden and Green, who began as performer-writers in a group called The Revuers, which included the late Judy Holliday, went on tocollaborate with Leonard Bernstein and Jerome Robbins on what was the first show for all four of them, %u201c On The Town.%u201dAlso with Mr. Bernstein, they did the score for the musical, %u201c Wonderful Town.%u201d With Jule Styne they wrote the book and/or lyrics for %u201c Bells Are Ringing,%u201d \Sleeping,%u201d %u201c Hallelujah, Baby!%u201d ; the team also wrote the book for %u201c Applause.\At present they are represented on Broadway with new lyrics for %u201cLorelei.%u201d Their many movie musicals include %u201c Singin%u2019 in the Rain,%u201d %u201cThe Band Wagon,%u201d %u201c On The Town,%u201d %u201c Bells Are Ringing,%u201d and %u201c Auntie Marne.%u201dOthers who will appear at the symphony ball include soprano Elaine Malbin, who has performedwith leading opera companies here and in Europe. She starred also on the Broadway stage and has appeared on many major television network programs.The chairman of the ball is Dr. Melvin Moore. Co-chairmen are Mrs. Sidney Bershatsky, Mrs. William Bloom, Mrs. Lillian DeSilver, Mrs. Theodore Friedman, Mrs. Joseph Scorcia, Stanley H. Kaplan, V. Peter Mastrorocco, and Joseph Scorcia.The ball will take place immediately after the fourth in the Philharmonia%u2019s 1973-74 major concert series, a performance that will feature the works of Mahler, Handel and Schoenberg.This season, in commemoration of its twentieth anniversary, the Philharmonia added a special series of concerts called %u201c Meet the Moderns.%u201d All presentations this year are being given in the Brooklyn Academy of Music.Aaron Copland (right), famed American composer, on stage at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on March 30 with fellow composer Lukas Foss, who is also conductor and musical advisor of the Brooklyn Philharmonia symphony orchestra, in a special evening of music devoted to American composers.
