After several hours of investigation, it was discovered the two had stabbed a local man in the stomach; the man was taken to Methodist Hospital and is expected to recover. Vasquez and Melendez were charged with attempted murder. At 4:45 a.m. on April 28, Officers Marx and Casserly arrested Ernest Carrion of 529 51st Street at the corner of Fifth Avenue and First Street; he had robbed a taxicab driver at gunpoint. When the officers took Carrion to the stationhouse, a cab driver was reporting a similar incident to the desk sergeant. As Carrion approached the desk, the cabbie said, %u201c That%u2019s the man.%u201d Carrion was charged with armed robbery-twice.A special word of thanks from the PHOENIX to Community Relations Officer Crehan of the 78th, who has a superb nose for news.Homicide Div.Morris Brooks, Jr. was found shot to death at his apartment at 191 Willoughby Street on April 18th. Detectives from 11th Homocide are clueless and baffled by the death of the 56 year old man, who was allegedly a homosexual. The murderer is still at large.Brooks%u2019 death may be linked to the series of homosexual murders that have occurred in the vicinity in the past year. %u201c But there has been no consistent modus operandi in these cases,%u201d reported DetectiveBrooksVersakos of the Homocide Division, %u201c so we don%u2019t know if we are dealing with one or a number of murderers.%u201dBrooks lived alone at the University Towers address. Police have not been able to contact anyone who has been able to tell them of his whereabouts or situation in his last days. They have learned that he frequented the Brooklyn Heights area, but further details have not been forthcoming.Detective Versakos of the 11th Homocide asks that anyone knowing Brooks, or who had seen him recently, call him at 439-8027. Any information at all may be significant. All contacts will be kept confidential.8 4 th pct.At 4:30 p.m. on May 1, strong winds shattered a small pane of glass on the tenth floor of the eleven-story building that housesthe Board of Education%u2019s Personnel and Business Administration Offices at 65 Court Street, at the corner of Livingston. But only a portion of the broken window fell to the street, and it was necessary to remove the balance before it could fall and injure passersby.Police from the 84th Precinct stopped approaching traffic on Livingston and Court and barricaded sidewalks as the building%u2019s custodian and engineer knocked the remaining portion out onto the street below. But because of the building%u2019s design, the corner windows are non-functional as well as totally inaccessible; they serve only to obscure what appears to be a duct or structural support that rises the entire eleven stories. In order to approach the window, building staff had to get around that beam or duct; they succeeded in removing the glass by using a long metal rod.76th Pct.Officer Tim Cole of the 76th Precinct reported four major arrests in the precinct area this week.
