Page 16, P H O EN IX , May 23, 1974 Police Nab Auto Thief76th Precinct Community Re-!ations Officer Tim Cole submitted the following report this week:On May 15 at 2:45 a.m., Officer James Gannon arestcd Howard Desata, 21, for grand larceny (auto theft) on Pacific Street between Hoyt and Bond Streets. The following day, May 16, George Correa, 20, Carlos Veles, 21, and Jose Sanchez, 28, were arrested for possession of pills and marijuana at the corner of Bergen and Smith Streets. Officers Douglas Lithgowand Jorge Castro made the arrest at 6:10 p.m.On May 17 at 12:20 a.m.. Officer Leonard Azzarillo arrested Leslie Flowers, a 25-year-old man, for possession of 58 envelopes of heroin at 417 Baltic Street. On the same day at 9:00 p.m., Patrick McKinnon, 22, was arrested for burglary on Van Dyke Street between Richards and Dwight Streets by Officer Anthony Russo.And on May 19, three juveniles whose names cannot be released by the Police Department were arrested at 4:15 p.m. for robbery byDetectives Santora and Petkiewitz on Hoyt Street between Warren and Baltic Streets.Anti-CrimeVery EffectiveCommunity Relations Officer Murphy of the 84th Precinct submitted the following list ofarrests:On May 13 at 12 noon, Officers Thomas Kelley and William Menchir, both of the 84th Anti-Crime Unit, arrested Donald Brown, 23, and Robert Brown, 18 (no relation),after they attempted to break intothe basement window at 128 MateStreet.Officers Kelley and Menchir made another arrest the following day, when they saw David Collins, 27, leaving 101 Clark Street with a television set at about 3 p.m.Arrest Made78th Precinct Community Relations Officer Skip Crehan reported the arrest of Arthur Lee Jones, 18, of 56 North Oxford Walk, on May 15 at 2 a.m. in the Atlantic Avenue BMT Station under Hanson Place. Jones, in concert with three others, stabbed Samuel Miller of 184 Hancock Street, and robbed him. There was a total of 73 IND members responding; 10 had no comment; 78 couid not be reached.The Brooklyn Heights-based West Brooklyn Independent Democrats made the following endorsements for upcoming elections this year at their meeting May 9;For U.S. Senate, former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark received 53 votes as compared to 1972 14th C.D. candidate Allard Lowenstein%u2019s 51, with four voting for no endorsement.Other winners were Howard Samuels for Governor; Assemblyman Tony Olivieri for Lieutenant Governor; and Bronx Borough President Robert Abrams for State Attorney General.In every race, results reflected the accuracy of The PHOENIX Poll conducted May 8, whose results were published in the May 9 issue. The balance of the poll involved candidates for U.S. Congress (despite uncertainties about the district under reapportionment), and for male and female district leaders.
