The plan is aimed at bringing the museum into the 21st Century, says Director Robert Buck, doubling the current size of the landmark museum to expand gallery and support space to accommodate the museum%u2019s vast permanent collection.The planned $100 million expansion, based on the winning design which was announced after press time, is projected on a 20-year timetable that is tied to forthcoming finances and is structured so that the project can be realized in a series of stages.The museum has for decades been plagued by a severe space problem that stems from an earlier, uncompleted master plan.
