USPS No. 44650Way Back When1949 was the year that brought fame and fortune to the Brooklyn Dodgers for the third time in baseball history for winning the National League Pennant. Thetwo previous wins were in %u201941 and %u201947. Playing their cross-town rivals, the Yankees, they came up with a World Series victory in 1955. Two years later, in 1957, they left Brookyn and moved to Los Angeles where they have been ever since. This was the first team under owner Walter O%u2019Malley and General Manager Branch Rickey to include a black on their roster, 2nd baseman, Jackie Robinson. It was the team that bought recognition to Pitcher Ralph Branca for pitching the %u201c shot heard round the world%u201d to Bobby Thompson as he hit a home run bringing in 2 men in the bottom of the 9th winning the pennant for the New York Giants, 5 - 4, in 1951.
