How do you decide the best values among these specials? Here is a rundown of what some merchants consider to be the best buys in their stores right noAt St. George Wine and Liquor,50 Clinton Street, the best buy, says owner Leon Paley, in white wine is Moreau Blanc, produced by Moreau, $3.59. The best buy in reds, he says, is a Bcaujolais Villages Domaine de Pierreux, a 1978 vintage for $4.49.The best buy in white wines at Van Vleck Liquors, 116 Montague Street, is Van Vleck's Cep de Vin Macon Villages, a 1977 Burgundy area dry white wine. People standing at Minsky%u2019s bars look like people who haven%u2019t given up on the 1%0%u2019s. Wearing plaid shirts, Levi dungarees, they eschew the new chic outfits. The bar itself has three hanging Tiffany lamps, and yellow, peeling walls, which give an old, bordering on ragged, but homey feel to the bar.In the back two separate rooms exist for dining, one an addition with a painted white brick wall. They arc always filled and busy with people eating Minsky%u2019s popular hamburgers and omelettes. Many people feel relaxed enough to dine at the bar. Minsky's is a neighborhood bar where people can be heard talking about the new woman who moved in to Carroll Street, or the state of the dollar, or why apartment rents are skyrocketing.MINSKY%u2019S, 222 7th Ave., 499-2311.of 1976, a Domaine de Perignon for $4.49.Robert Janetschek of Brennan%u2019sLiqour, 455 Atlantic Ave. recommends in reds a California burgundy of the Paul Masson vineyards for $2.69; in reds a California Almadcn Pinot Chardonnay of 1977 vintage sells for $4.29.At Marcolini Wines and Liquors,Snooky%u2019s PubWhat you notice about Snooky%u2019sPub immediately is its noise level. The decibel level, as compared to most Brooklyn bars, is amplified like a stereo playing at full volume. Everyone at the bar is talking and gesticulating. A tension pervades Snooky%u2019s Pub that doesn%u2019t happen at too many other Brooklyn bars. This tension stems from male and females vying for each other%u2019s attention. In short, Snooky%u2019s is more of a single%u2019s bar, than other Brooklyn bars.Men and women take positions here. One woman stands with her arms folded in a defensive, keep your distance pose. Another woman slouches on the bar, facing front, announcing that she is ready to meet someone. At Snooky%u2019s you arc what your body does and says. The bar itself has a nautical motif. Its large plate glass window and hanging plants look inviting, but inside on a Friday night it seems like a Tuesday afternoon. A new music policy for the back room, ranging from jazz groups to Latin-Afro music, hopes to lure people to City Lights. The bar itself is dark; two full mirrors reflect the activity back to the patrons. Two stained glass windows give an arty touch.
