This medal isawarded to soldiers for meritorious service,acts of courage, or other accomplishments.Honor Playground Group and Its OrganizerThe 11th Street Playground Committeewas honored at the annual meeting of theParks Council last month, when its chairperson, Jasmine Melzer, was presented with anaward for community service. The presentation was made by Tupper Thomas, ProspectPark Administrator, at a ceremony at theUrban Center in Manhattan.%u201cThe advocacy and fund-raising activitiesof Ms. Melzer and the group she organized,the 11th Street Playground Committee, encouraged the Administrator%u2019s office to include the playground in the restoration project planned for the nearby Bandshell,%u201d saysThomas, with the playground committee acting as advisors. %u201cTheir recommendations,based on scrupulous research in design andsafety factors, made a significant contribution to the quality of this exceptionalplayground,%u201d she said.Under Melzer%u2019s direction, the 11th StreetPlayground Committee continuesmaintenance of the playground by raisingfunds for summer arts & crafts and sportsprogramming, planting bulbs and organizingcleanups.
