Capernwray Visit
By James Lawrie
As a part of their 3 month BDM course (Bible,
Discipleship, Mission), Capernwray Australia students
are sent around the country to minister in and support
various Christian ministries. During Week 4, We were
fortunate enough to host a team (who travelled 15
hours by van to get to Kadina), which was made up of
students from 6 different countries.
They worked with students in Foundation to Year 11
throughout the week - starting with a games session,
and ending with a Bible class. On Wednesday evening
they also hosted a Family Chapel Service, focusing on
testimonies - stories of how God has been working in
each of their lives.
The team loved exploring the Copper Coast. They were
encouraged by the warm welcome received from the
staff and students
at Harvest, and
had some fantastic
conversations with
Harvest community
members.
Over the last 4 weeks, the OSHC crew have been
exploring what it means to Grow in God. Inspired by
1 Corinthians 5:17 they have been talking about how,
when we are connected to Christ, we let go of the old
and grow into a new, vibrant version of ourselves. The
students have had loads of fun exploring the Fruit of the
Spirit - just ask them about it!
To illustrate this they have looked at how caterpillars
transform into butterflies, and tiny seeds grow into
beautiful plants. We even have our own pet caterpillars.
Three of them are already snug in their cocoons, and we
are eagerly waiting for their big butterfly debut.
The students have let their creativity shine, creating
our amazing wall mural of growing things, and taking
home their own sunflower seeds to grow. They have
also been busy with games, chocolate crackles, and
ANZAC biscuits, reflecting on Remembrance Day and
the sacrifices others have made - including the ultimate
one, Christ’s sacrifice for us.
They are now gearing up for the Christmas season,
so keep an eye on the OSHC window for some festive
cheer.
