ProvidingNewsandViewsformorethan30yearsFoxPharmacy,HGHair&Page9theRennieGrovePeaceCharityShop.HOLMERGREENYOUTHCLUBSummerof%u201924:BucksNewUniversity[BNU]I suppose my excuse wasit was June/July when Charmain Clayton came upto meet me to offer fifty comic books to give away.Charmain knew myself and Holmer Green Youth Club through her son & daughter who both once attended.When I was asked about my summer break, I was probably not very enthusiastic asit%u2019s the time I try todosome maintenanceor painting.Time and moneyfor maintenance will always hold me back but I do what I can do.I try to take some of the wear and tear away, making theYouthClubawelcomingplacetovisit.Thesejobsoverthesummeroftenfeellikecoveringoverthe cracks.The management committee at Holmer Green Youth Club is very small.People do not join in a hurry so we do what we can.Charmain (who is Community Engagement Officer at BNU) then said she may be able to help, askedmetowritealistofallthatneededdoing.CharmainthenvisitedtheYouthClubagainandover thenext few weeks put together a team who were going to help me do five years%u2019 worth of work in a few days.They managed to get everything donated, the paints, brushes and cleaning materials.All I could keep sayingwas%u2018thankyou.%u2019Ihavebeenblownaway.IwatchedtheYouthClubchangeface.Thegarden,the kitchen, the backrooms.The enthusiasm to help from all of the staff from Bucks New University was the biggest morale boost I could have hoped for.Alongside all the work inside and out, a new oven and tv to replace the ones that didn%u2019t work, a microwave, kettle, new lighting for all of the rooms (any electricians willing to help change the lights please contact me) and even a new garden shed wasdonated.We need to thank Wickes, Crown Paints, Tescos, Morrisons, The Three Horseshoes in Hazlemere, Grundon, Energy Efficient Solutions (EES) and BNU, plus an anonymous giver for all of the donations.TherewillbeaBucksNewUniversityphase2.Wehadmoneydonatedtogotowardsnewcarpetsin the back rooms.I think they were once dark green, but it%u2019s been so long, I can%u2019t remember, and the ceiling is also to be painted.I have enjoyed working with all the members of the staff and would liketo give a special mention to Laura Manners who sorted and helped with the practical DIY I cannot do and took charge taking down the old shed, which was in an awful state, and putting up the new last month.It is now my job to make useofwhathasbeengiven,bothtimeanddonations.ButIguessthebiggestthingIhavebeengivenis a feeling that Holmer Green Youth Club is not on its own and help can be out there.Again, what can I say but thank you all of those who helped.Thank You Charmain and Laura.IhavealsometwiththeheadofBNUHealthandSocialCareSchoolandweare lookingintohowwe can work together to help our young people.
