Pattachitra is a combination of adornments, the bhav (expressions), the overall features of face, complexion, eyes and
attire describe the class level in Rajgharana like King, Queen etc. and belongs to geographical culture segment like
Rajasthani-Rajputi, Odishi.
Pattachitra is the traditional painting style of Odisha, India. These paintings are based on Hindu mythology characters
and specially inspired by Jagannath and Vaishnava sect. All colours used in the paintings are natural and are made in
an old, traditional way by Chitrakaras, who are Odiya Painters.
The name Pattachitra has evolved from the Sanskrit word 'patta', meaning cloth, and 'chitra', meaning picture. This art
form is believed to have originated as early as the 12th century and is one of the oldest and most famous living art forms.
