Aloha to the Members of the Peaceful Unif cation Advisory Council (PUAC)!

I would like to express my gratitude to the PUAC Global Strategy Committee and the
members of the PUAC Hawaii Chapter for all your hard work in hosting the North
Korean Human Rights Conference in Hawaii. My special thanks go to Ms. Myong
Hae Kim, Chairperson of the Global Strategy Committee, and Mr. Park Bong Ryong,
President of the PUAC Hawaii Chapter, who worked tirelessly. T ank you.

I also want to thank the ROK Consulate General in Honolulu and the East-West Center
for all your help as co-hosts.

Congratulations on the first official international event of the PUAC Global Strategy
Committee, which our President, who is also the PUAC Chairman, is highly interested in.

President Yoon said in his opening remarks at the PUAC Plenary Session in Korea
last week (parts of his remarks are reproduced at the beginning of this book) that the
fundamental strength for improving North Korean human rights is based on truth. It is
critical to know the truth about North Korean human rights issues and inform the people
about the truth. Moreover, it is even more critical to strengthen international cooperation
on North Korean human rights.

This meaningful conference is taking place in a timely manner as we think about the
desperate North Korean human rights violations. I am sure that this event will be a time
for conf rming the power of truth. It will be a meaningful discussion drawing support and
cooperation from the international community.
