Mandatory Generics
If you purchase a brand-name drug when an equivalent generic is
available, you will pay the generic copay PLUS the difference between

the retail cost of the brand drug and the generic drug, as illustrated
below in an example using popular cholesterol medications. An
exception applies when your doctor certiies that you have tried the
generic equivalent and cannot use it for medical reasons.
