Beneit Resource
Guide
As your employer, we care about your health and well-being. Although
we cannot make health coverage decisions for you and your family, we
want to assist you with as many resources and tools as possible. The
attached FAQ will hopefully address more speciic questions you may
have regarding Health Care Reform. We will continue to send updated
communication materials to you as we move closer to the annual
enrollment process. You are always encouraged to bring questions and
concerns to your Human Resource representatives.
1. What is the Individual Mandate?—The provision of the law
requiring, in general, every individual have qualifying health
insurance or pay a penalty.
A. 2016—Greater of $695 per uninsured adult or 2.5% of
household income
2. Is the health insurance I get from Americare qualifying coverage so
I can avoid the penalty?—Yes
3. What are the “Exchanges/Marketplaces?”—The exchanges
are marketplaces to buy health insurance run by a state or the
federal government. You can go to www.healthcare.gov or visit
www.locktonmarketplace.com/stlouis for more options.
4. Do I have to get health insurance through Americare?—No, but
because Americare will offer plans that meet the requirements of
the law (affordability and qualifying coverage) there are several
things to consider if you purchase medical insurance through an
exchange:
A. You may not receive a subsidy
B. You will pay 100% of the cost in an exchange/marketplace
C. Your premium will be an after tax payment
