Salik eases traffic flow
The Business Bay Crossing gate will reduce traffic on Al Khail Road by 15 per cent and cut
traffic volume on Al Rebat Street by 16 per cent, the RTA said, adding that the total travel
time on the congested section between Al Rebat and Ras Al Khor Streets will decrease by
20,000 hours daily in both directions.
The Al Safa South gate, positioned between Al Meydan and Umm Al Sheif Streets, will
implement a one-time toll fee for journeys between the North and South Al Safa toll gates
within an hour.
According to RTA data, the new gate will reduce right-turn traffic from Sheikh Zayed Road
to Al Meydan Street by 15 per cent and decrease traffic flow from Al Meydan and Al Safa
Streets to Sheikh Zayed Road by 42 per cent.
The existing toll gates in Dubai have reduced total travel time by 6 million hours annually
and decreased traffic on Al Maktoum and Al Garhoud Bridges by 26 per cent. Public
transport ridership has increased by 9 million passengers per year.
The Al Khail Road Development Project, serving 1.5 million people, has reduced travel time
by 30 per cent and increased the capacity of intersections and bridges by 19,600 vehicles
per hour.
