OQ launches Luban LL-8446.21 to enhance
Global Water Security
Jan 7, 2025 / Oman : OQ, Oman’s integrated energy group, has introduced Luban
LL-8446.21, an advanced rotomoulding-grade polymer designed to address the
global water scarcity crisis. This innovative material, unveiled at Arabplast 2025,
aims to improve water and food storage capabilities, particularly in regions facing
significant resource challenges. With billions already impacted by water scarcity,
Luban LL-8446.21 offers a practical solution by enabling the production of
durable water storage tanks. Its long-term reliability makes it ideal for use in
water-stressed regions, contributing to sustainable solutions in the face of climate
change and growing populations.
“Water scarcity remains one of the most pressing challenges of our time, and
Luban LL-8446.21 reflects our commitment to addressing this issue with solutions
that benefit communities and industries,” said Abdul Rahman Al Tamtami, Vice
President of Global Marketing at OQ.
Luban LL-8446.21 provides a sustainable alternative to traditional materials,
offering superior environmental stress crack resistance (ESCR) and weatherability.
Its durability ensures long-term use in harsh environments, making it suitable for
critical applications such as water tanks and agricultural storage. The polymer’s
manufacturing process is energy-efficient, which helps reduce carbon emissions,
while its lightweight nature lowers energy consumption during production,
transport, and installation. Additionally, it meets food safety standards, enabling
secure storage for water and essential food products. Furthermore, the material is
recyclable, supporting circular economy principles and minimizing environmental
impact.
Luban LL-8446.21 has earned recognition for its outstanding qualities, including a
nomination for the prestigious 2024 OPAL Best Practices Award. With over 100
customer approvals worldwide, the product is rapidly gaining acknowledgment
for addressing water and food security needs effectively. The Oman Energy
Association (OPAL), a non-profit organization focused on promoting industry
standards, safety, and human resource development, has recognized OQ’s
contributions to sustainable development.
“This OPAL nomination highlights the significant impact Luban LL-8446.21 has on
both our business and the industries it serves,” said Sadiq Al Lawati, Managing
Director of Polymer Marketing at OQ. “It reflects our commitment to providing
sustainable, high-value solutions.”
In addition to water storage, Luban LL-8446.21 has broad application potential,
including in traffic barriers, road cones, and consumer products like cool boxes
and children’s slides. OQ’s dedication to innovation continues, with future product
developments incorporating advanced materials such as 1-hexene to further
improve mechanical properties and environmental stress-cracking resistance.
These new solutions will expand the versatility of Luban LL-8446.21 for a wider
range of applications.
OQ’s launch of Luban LL-8446.21 demonstrates its commitment to sustainability
and cutting-edge innovation. Leveraging advanced Unipol PE technology, this
polymer offers both exceptional mechanical performance and environmental
benefits. As OQ grows its rotomoulding portfolio, the company remains
dedicated to delivering impactful solutions that align with global sustainability
goals.
