Abu Dhabi launches pilot flight for drone parcel deliveries

Abu Dhabi has completed its first pilot flight for autonomous drone parcel deliveries boosting its
drive to integrate smart mobility technologies.

Conducted in Khalifa City, the initiative was led by aviation technology firm LODD and investment
group 7X with support from the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO).

Smart drone delivery begins

The pilot represents the first phase in what Abu Dhabi envisions as a scalable, autonomous drone
delivery network.

The test flight involved a drone transporting a simulated package using a secure winch-based
delivery system, Abu Dhabi’s Media Office said.
This first flight is seen as a key part of the strategy set by the Smart and Autonomous Systems
Council (SASC). It falls under ADIO’s broader Smart and Autonomous Vehicles Industry (SAVI)
cluster initiative, designed to position Abu Dhabi as a global innovation hub for next-generation
transportation.
Oversight was provided by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and the Integrated Transport
Centre, ensuring alignment with evolving regulatory frameworks for unmanned aerial systems.
