efficiency is crucial in fast-paced sectors like oil and gas, where timely and accurate data
can significantly influence project outcomes.
Fugro is also focusing on sustainability, aiming for net-zero emissions by 2035. The
deployment of USVs like the Blue Shadow® substantially reduces carbon emissions—by up
to 90% compared to traditional survey vessels—and minimises human risk by allowing
remote operations. This commitment to environmental responsibility and safety
underscores Fugro’s dedication to advancing ocean science in a sustainable manner.
Louis Burnard, Fugro’s Regional Director for Marine Site Characterisation in the Middle
East and India, emphasised the broader implications of the Blue Shadow®’s deployment,
stating, “This addition to the region’s fleet marks Fugro’s commitment to leveraging
technology for a safe and liveable world. With the Blue Shadow® navigating our waters,
we’re not just mapping the seabed, we’re forging a path for safer, more efficient maritime
navigation in our region.” This vision highlights Fugro’s role not only as a provider of
critical Geo-data but also as an innovator in the quest for safer, more sustainable marine
operations.
