ABU DHABI: The Min istry of Cul ture, in col lab or a tion with Zayed Uni versity, has launched the

“Mod ern Her it age Research Grants” pro gramme, a stra tegic ini ti at ive aligned with the national

efforts to pre serve and pro mote the UAE’S mod ern archi tec tural her it age.

The pro gramme aims to sup port and encour age com pre hens ive research on the coun try’s archi -

tec tural leg acy from the 1960s through the 1990s and is endorsed by the “Sus tain able Impact”
seal from Majra – the National CSR Fund.
The pro gramme will award up to 20 grants to indi vidu als, research ers, and enthu si asts who will

crit ic ally exam ine the UAE’S mod ern archi tec ture and its regional con nec tions. By fos ter ing

research, the ini ti at ive seeks to fill key know ledge gaps, raise aware ness, and strengthen col lab -

or a tion between aca demic insti tu tions and the wider com munity.

Mubarak Al Nakhi, Under sec ret ary of the Min istry of Cul ture, said: “The Mod ern Her it age
Research Grants pro gramme rep res ents a key com pon ent of our national strategy to pre serve

and safe guard mod ern archi tec tural her it age, which serves as a bridge con nect ing the past with

the future. Our part ner ship with Zayed Uni versity under scores our com mit ment to pro mot ing

robust research into the archi tec tural his tory of the pivotal era from the 1960s through the

1990s. By doing so, we seek to uncover the cul tural and artistic lay ers that have shaped our

national iden tity.”

He fur ther added: “These grants are designed to encour age rig or ous research and cre ativ ity to

inter pret our her it age with crit ical aware ness and con nect it to regional and global archi tec tural

move ments. By empower ing tal en ted indi vidu als, we aim to fill know ledge gaps and trans form

archival mater ial into a liv ing resource that informs and inspires future gen er a tions.”

The pro gramme encom passes two primary research cat egor ies – cre at ive and aca demic. Cre at -

ive research includes the pro duc tion of films, illus tra tions, mater i als, and pho to graphic works

high light ing archi tec tural char ac ter ist ics of this period.
