10/29/25, 11:15 AM Dubai Unveils UAE’s First Green Innovation District
The district will serve as an incubator for green enterprises and startups, offering flexible office and
industrial spaces, renewable-powered infrastructure, and access to Expo City’s free zone.

It will also introduce the UAE’s first “Green License,” providing incentives for companies

committed to environmental and social sustainability. The initiative supports national strategies,
including Net Zero 2050, We the UAE 2031, and the National Investment Strategy 2031.

Minister of Economy and Tourism Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri said the district represents a major

step toward integrating economic diversification with climate action. Al Marri said it will foster
innovation, accelerate technology localization, and enhance the UAE’s attractiveness as a

destination for green and sustainable investments.

A new intellectual property (IP) office will be established at Expo City to support green

technologies and research, the economic minister added.

        Collaborating for sustainability

Expo City Dubai CEO Reem Al Hashimy said Expo City will attract eco-conscious businesses

worldwide and reinforce the UAE’s position as a leader in green economic development.

Among its founding partners, Intesa Sanpaolo will provide financing expertise, with over $16.3

billion (€14 billion) already deployed globally for circular economy projects. Nestlé will contribute

R&D and sustainability know-how, while Majra, the UAE’s National CSR Fund, will help channel
impact-driven startups into the district. Palmade, a local firm turning discarded palm leaves into

biodegradable products, will relocate its operations there to scale production.

Building on Expo 2020 Dubai’s infrastructure, the Green Innovation District is envisioned as a
“living laboratory” for sustainable urban development, a model that combines economic opportunity

with environmental responsibility and positions the UAE as a blueprint for green industrialization in

        the Global South.
