Dubai airport to end laptop and liquid checks soon

Passengers flying through Dubai International Airport (DXB) may soon enjoy a faster security check,
thanks to new technology that could end the need to take out laptops or liquids over 100ml from
               hand-carry bags.
Dubai Airports has started testing new high-tech security scanners at its Terminals 1, 2, and 3 to
make travel faster and smoother. These scanners, developed by UK-based company Smiths
Detection, are part of a project by Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects (DAEP). CEO of Dubai
Airports, Paul Griffiths, said the main goal is to increase passenger handling without expanding
airport buildings. He mentioned that even though passenger numbers have grown by 20% over the
last ten years, there has been no major increase in infrastructure. The focus now is on boosting
efficiency with the help of new technology.
According to Griffiths, the new scanners are showing good results in trials. Screening has become
quicker and more accurate. While safety remains a top concern, improving speed and convenience
for travelers is also very important. One major benefit of the new system is that passengers will no
longer need to remove electronics or liquids from their bags during checks. This change could save
a lot of time, especially during peak hours.
Dubai International Airport (DXB) handled over 46 million passengers in the first half of 2025,
showing a 2.3% rise compared to the same period last year. It continues to be the world’s busiest
airport. The trial of these advanced scanners is part of a larger effort to improve airport operations
and traveler experience without the need for large construction projects. More updates on the full
               rollout are expected soon.
