Dubai ends summer flexible work initiative for
public sector workforce
Dubai’s 'Flexible Summer' initiative, ending September 12, offered government employees alternative
work schedules to ease summer pressures while maintaining a five-day work week. Expanded from a
2024 pilot, it achieved a 98% employee happiness rate and measurable productivity gains. Officials
said the programme strengthened family ties, improved work-life balance, and enhanced institutional
performance, reflecting Dubai’s wider workforce strategy under the “Year of Community.”

Dubai’s 'Flexible Summer' initiative,

day workweek, will conclude on
September 12, according to
the Dubai Government Human
Resources Department (DGHR).
Launched on July 1 after a successful 2024 pilot across 21 entities, the programme
expanded this year to all government departments. It was designed to improve work-life
balance, strengthen family ties, and promote social cohesion while sustaining
institutional performance.
Trial data highlighted strong workforce outcomes, including a surge in employee
happiness levels to 98% and measurable productivity gains recognised under the Dubai
