Dubai Municipality has launched an ambitious project to rebuild and
rehabilitate the supporting walls along the Deira side of Dubai Creek. The
initiative, which is backed by a total expense of Dh112 million, was
                                                        announced on Sunday.

The main objective behind this significant undertaking is to boost the
efficiency of the creek's retaining walls by overhauling the dock,
reconstructing sections that have seen wear and tear over half a century,
and averting potential flooding during harsh weather conditions. In doing
so, it aims to reduce disruptions caused by adverse weather or flooding tha
affect commercial traffic in this bustling maritime route.

A testament to its importance for commerce in Dubai, more than 13,000
ships traverse Dubai Creek annually. This makes ensuring uninterrupted
docking traffic crucial for sustaining economic activity in the region.

The rehabilitation project will be carried out in two distinct phases. The first phase involves restoring a stretch measuring 2.1
kilometers along Deira’s side of Dubai Creek while dividing it into several segments each with sequential patterning for seamless
docking operations. Following this initial stage, work will commence on rehabilitating a 2.3 kilometer length on Bur Dubai's side
        during phase two.

Dawoud Al Hajri, director general of Dubai Municipality emphasized that this project underscores their commitment towards
transforming Dubai into an even more attractive city through strategic development initiatives aimed at enhancing coastal facilities
        and infrastructure throughout the emirate.

"The goal," he said "is not only to solidify our standing as a global tourism hub but also augment our economic prosperity." He further
noted: "This project will enhance safety measures within maritime traffic and commercial operations across Dubai Creek."

Being one major artery at heart of city life in Dubai—facilitating passage for over 13k vessels every year—the creek plays an
instrumental role fostering both social-economic prosperity within Emirates while maintaining robust trade relationships with
        neighboring markets around the region.

He added: "We are working diligently to mitigate risks posed by climate change and rising sea levels and are constantly monitoring
changes on both sides of the creek. Technical studies have been conducted to formulate construction designs that can boost the
efficiency of marine docks on both banks, ensuring preservation and safeguarding against increased flooding during seasonal weather
        conditions."

The project's 14-month timeline includes restoration work along the 2.1 km Deira pier which involves replacing damaged sections of
concrete wall up to a depth of eight meters while also increasing its height to three meters.

In conclusion, through this initiative, Dubai Municipality is taking significant strides towards enhancing services for safe docking and
navigation with plans in place to provide around 200 anchors across the dock as part of their commitment towards transforming
Dubai into an even more attractive city offering world-class facilities.
