        Tech risk resilience and readiness varies across the industry and from country to
        country. In our survey, 20% of UAE construction businesses described themselves as
        “digital first” businesses, whereas only 2% of KSA businesses said the same. Things
        appear to be changing fast, however. Some 47% of firms across the Middle East and
        North Africa are currently using construction platforms — a figure that rises to 56% in
        Saudi Arabia — and a little over a third (34%) of firms said they planned on introducing
        them in the next 12 months.


        Better planning for better profitability




        Construction professionals recognise the competitive advantage and efficiencies that
        flow from the efficient deployment of resources. Promoting a culture of efficient
        deployment is one of the main levers to controlling costs (our Middle East and North
        Africa survey respondents said budget control and commercial management would be
        the top skill in demand in the coming year), building capacity and encouraging
        innovation: for example, sharing plant and machinery efficiently between jobs or
        experimenting with new construction methods.


        Leaders say their greatest immediate challenges are collecting pricing quotes in a
        centralised location, keeping up to date with construction technologies and
        understanding what is happening in the business in real time, or as close to it as
        possible. The latter point is a key challenge of construction businesses everywhere, not
