'Barakatna' Initiative reinforces wise leadership's vision to support senior
citizens: Sheikha Fatima

emirates7 -H.H. Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, known as the "Mother of the Nation,"
Chairwoman of the General Women's Union (GWU), President of the Supreme Council
for Motherhood and Childhood, and Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development
Foundation (FDF), highlighted the UAE's commitment to prioritizing the well-being of
senior citizens under the leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin
Zayed Al Nahyan.
She emphasized that the UAE’s proactive approach has positioned the country as a
leader in safeguarding the rights and improving the quality of life for senior citizens.
The country has created a supportive environment that ensures their well-being while
also aiding caregivers. This effort is part of the UAE's broader strategy to enhance the
lives of the elderly, establishing it as both a regional and global model for senior care.
In the context of the "Barakatna" Initiative, launched by the Department of
Community Development – Abu Dhabi (DCD) and the Family Development Foundation
in collaboration with various partners, Sheikha Fatima stated that the initiative
enriches the lives of senior citizens by offering an inclusive, nurturing environment that
enables them to live with dignity alongside their families. The initiative provides
essential resources for emotional, social stability, independence, and empowerment,
benefiting both the elderly and their caregivers. This aligns with the country’s national
agenda to address the healthcare, living, and social needs of senior citizens, while
supporting the UAE’s vision of building a sustainable, inclusive society.
Sheikha Fatima also praised the efforts of all those involved in senior care,
acknowledging the significant contributions of institutions through various programs
and initiatives aimed at providing the best possible support. She stressed the
importance of collaboration among stakeholders to ensure seniors can live with dignity
and independence, and highlighted the UAE’s sense of social, humanitarian, and
national responsibility in carrying forward the legacy of the nation’s founders.
Finally, Sheikha Fatima expressed her deep appreciation for the specialized teams
dedicated to senior care, recognizing their remarkable commitment and the vital role
