MBRF Hosts Seminar In Egypt To Introduce ‘Documenting The Legacy Of
Sheikh Rashid’ Project
The Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) organized an interactive seminar in Cairo to unveil its latest
initiative, ‘Documenting the Legacy of Sheikh Rashid’. The project aims to chronicle the influential role of the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum in
Dubai’s rise, particularly in sectors such as the economy, education, healthcare, and tourism.
The seminar was held at the Akhbar El-Youm Publishing House headquarters and was attended by a distinguished audience, including prominent
journalists, academics, and media figures from across Egypt. The session was moderated by renowned historian Dr. Khaled Azab, who emphasized that
Dubai represents not only architectural marvels but also a legacy of knowledge, innovation, and cultural development.
His Excellency Jamal bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, opened the seminar with remarks on Dubai’s proud history and enduring legacy. “We are deeply proud
of Dubai, its heritage, and its achievements. The late Sheikh Rashid laid the foundation for a city that today stands as a global hub for trade, knowledge,
and sustainable growth. At MBRF, we continue to draw inspiration from his vision while aligning with the leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed
bin Rashid Al Maktoum in driving national progress,” he said.
The seminar featured insightful contributions from several leading figures. Mahmoud Bassiouni, Editor-in-Chief of Akhbar El-Youm, praised the
transformation of Dubai under Sheikh Rashid’s leadership. Dr. Mohamed Afifi, Professor of History, proposed establishing a university chair in Sheikh
Rashid’s name to honor his legacy academically.
Dr. Mohamed Showman, Dean of the Faculty of Media and Mass Communication at El Shorouk Academy, suggested the production of a biographical
drama to highlight Sheikh Rashid’s contributions. Dr. Mohamed El-Baz advocated for the creation of a documentary series to preserve and disseminate
Sheikh Rashid’s enduring impact to future generations. Adding to this, Dr. Mahmoud Hussein, celebrated as the Dean of Translators, emphasized
incorporating Sheikh Rashid’s visionary approach in youth development programs to cultivate skills and identity among younger generations.
Veteran journalist Mohamed Kandil, known as the ‘Sinbad of Journalism,’ concluded the session with reflections from his first visit to Dubai in 1995. He
praised the city’s remarkable transformation, calling it the “Arab Hong Kong,” and expressed hope that other Arab cities would follow Dubai’s model of
development and prosperity.
The seminar marks an important step in MBRF’s mission to preserve the legacy of national leaders and inspire future generations through knowledge-
driven initiatives.
