Launch of 'IP SPORT' Initiative in UAE

The UAE Ministry of Economy, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports, launched the 'IP SPORT' initiative to promote
intellectual property rights in sports and protect trademarks.

In the framework of cooperation between the Ministry of Economy and the Ministry of Sports, the initiative "IP SPORT" was
launched with the slogan "In the world of sports, we respect intellectual rights, as well as the rules of the game". The goal of
this initiative is to achieve a sustainable balance between fair play and respect for intellectual rights, as well as to protect sports
trademarks in the country. This was announced during an event attended by representatives of partners, including the Ministry
of Sports, the Council of Trademark Owners, the UAE Intellectual Property Association, and others.

The Deputy Minister of Economy Abdulla Ahmed Al Saleh emphasized that the UAE has consolidated its leading position in the
region and the world in developing the intellectual property protection system, based on international best practices. The
initiative "IP SPORT", implemented jointly with the relevant structures in the country, contributes to the integration between
intellectual property and important sectors of life, including the sports sector, ensuring a supportive sports environment,
fostering innovation, and protecting the rights of all parties in the field of sports.
The Deputy Minister of Sports Hamem Mubarak Al Hadjri noted that the initiative "IP SPORT" reflects the obligation of the
ministry to promote the importance of intellectual property in the sports sector, as well as underscores the commitment to
strengthening core values that the Ministry of Sports supports, such as management, partnership, and achievements, to
achieve new heights in the development of sports in the UAE.
By the end of 2024, the UAE had registered 370,600 national and international trademarks, of which 1,909 were registered in
the sports sector. The number of registered patents in the country amounted to 6,162, while registered intellectual property
productions totaled 21,268, and industrial designs numbered 9,503.
