UAE Highlights Commitment To Strengthening IP
Rights Protection At Belt And Road Conference
In Beijing
The UAE Ministry of Economy (MoEc) showcased its commitment to enhancing intellectual property
(IP) rights protection during the third Belt and Road High-Level Conference on Intellectual Property in
Beijing, China. H.E. Dr. Abdulrahman Hassan Al Muaini, Assistant Undersecretary for the Intellectual
Property Sector at MoEc, represented the UAE at the event, which brought together government
representatives from 55 countries and six international organizations.
In his address, H.E. Al Muaini emphasized the UAE’s efforts to bolster its legislative framework for IP
protection, in alignment with international best practices. He highlighted recent amendments to UAE
laws governing industrial property rights, trademarks, and copyright protections, which have
significantly advanced the nation's IP landscape. These reforms are crucial for fostering an
environment conducive to innovation, entrepreneurship, and the protection of creators' rights, in line
with the UAE’s long-term economic vision, We the UAE 2031.
The conference, themed ‘Openness, Cooperation, Development, and Mutual Benefit,’ aimed to
strengthen cooperation on IP protection among Belt and Road countries, promoting innovation and
knowledge-sharing along the New Silk Road. H.E. Al Muaini underscored the importance of intellectual
property in supporting sustainable development goals in key sectors such as clean technology,
healthcare, and education, and stressed the role of IP in accelerating innovation and investment in
advanced technologies.
With nearly 450 participants, the conference served as a platform for exchanging best practices and
launching new initiatives aimed at protecting IP rights, particularly in the digital and e-commerce
sectors.
