The film aims to portray the nuances of growing up in the UAE, exploring themes of first love, traditional

family structures and the emotional challenges of family life.

The UAE’s Ministry of Culture, in collaboration with Image Nation Abu Dhabi, will organise the screening of Emirati film Sea Shadow on
Friday, 12 September, at Masafi Cultural Centre in Fujairah.

The 2011 feature Sea Shadow holds a landmark place in Emirati cinema as the first film from Image Nation to be entirely shot in the United
Arab Emirates. Written by Mohammed Hassan Ahmed and directed by Nawaf Al-Janahi, the coming-of-age story follows two teenagers,
Mansoor and Kaltham, who grapple with family traditions while navigating the choices that will shape their adult lives.

The film made its debut at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival in October 2011 before screening in cinemas across the Gulf in November that year. It
went on to premiere internationally at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January 2012.

Al-Janahi, known for the short Mirrors of Silence and the feature The Circle, was approached by Image Nation after the company, founded in
2008, recognised his potential to bring Sea Shadow to life. With a production budget of $1m, the film was shot across Ras Al Khaimah, Dubai
and Abu Dhabi in late 2010.
