The Indian rupee fell to a record low against the U.S. dollar on Monday, pressured by concerns over
higher U.S. tariffs on Indian exports and the broader economic impact on the country. The currency
weakened to 88.33 per dollar, slipping beyond the previous all-time low of 88.3075 reached in the prior
session.
The Reserve Bank of India intervened on Friday to stabilize the rupee, but its decision to allow the
currency to break through the 88 threshold surprised many market participants.
