As Eid Al Fitr approaches, the Council’s statement elucidates the significance of Zakat Al
Fitr, citing the hadith by Ibn Omar, wherein “Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) has made Sadaqat
Al Fitr obligatory, (and it was), either one Sa’ of barley or one Sa’ of dates.” This profound
tradition underscores the essence of charitable giving embedded within Islamic teachings.
Clarifying the practical dimensions of Zakat Al Fitr, the UAE Council of Fatwa highlights that
it equates to 2.5 kilograms of rice per person. Importantly, this obligation may be discharged
either in kind, such as rice, or through monetary means, offering flexibility in meeting the
needs of diverse communities.
In essence, the reaffirmation of giving Zakat Al Fitr in cash by the UAE Council for Fatwa
serves as a beacon of guidance, ensuring adherence to Islamic principles while adapting to
contemporary realities. By facilitating options for fulfilling this obligation, the Council fosters
inclusivity and accessibility, allowing individuals to contribute according to their means and
circumstances.
Moreover, the recommended value of Dh25 per person for Zakat Al Fitr exemplifies a
commitment to upholding the spirit of generosity and compassion. This amount serves as a
tangible expression of solidarity and support for those in need, enabling the community to
collectively alleviate hardship and celebrate the joyous occasion of Eid Al Fitr with a spirit of
abundance and gratitude.
