Historical landmarks
Hatta is home to a wealth of historical landmarks that offer a glimpse into the UAE’s rich past.
From restored villages to ancient forts, the town provides an immersive experience into the traditional life of
the region.
Opened in 2001, Hatta Heritage Village stands as one of Dubai’s most iconic historical attractions.
The village recreates rural life from centuries ago, offering visitors an authentic journey through time.
Exhibits include life-sized models, documents, sculptures, handmade crafts, and traditional cottages.
Visitors can experience daily village life as it was in the past, witnessing traditional cooking methods,
handicraft production, and enjoying coffee prepared over coal.
The village serves as a vibrant hub for cultural exchange, complete with the warmth of traditional Emirati
hospitality.
Constructed in 1896, Hatta Fort is one of the UAE’s most significant archaeological landmarks.
Featuring an 11-meter watchtower and an interior courtyard, the fort was built using natural materials,
including mountain rocks and adobe bricks.
Palm fronds and tree trunks were used for its ceiling, showcasing sustainable construction techniques of the
time.
Restored in 1995, the fort remains a testament to the region’s historical resilience.
Furthermore, Al Shariah Mosque, located in the historic Al Shariah district, was built approximately 200 years
ago.
Recently restored, it stands as a symbol of Hatta’s cultural and religious heritage.
Al Shariah area also features the historic Al Shariah Falaj, an ancient irrigation system still used to water the
region’s farms, highlighting the ingenuity of early Emirati settlers.
Whether exploring the Hatta Heritage Village, marveling at the fort’s architecture, or walking through Al
Sharia’s historic sites, the town provides a deeply enriching experience.
Green treasures
Hatta offers nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts an extraordinary opportunity to explore its rich biodiversity
through the Hatta Mountain Reserve, a sanctuary for rare plant and animal species, including the
endangered ‘Arabian Tahr.’
The reserve’s rugged mountain landscapes, fresh air, and diverse ecosystems provide a safe haven for
wildlife.
