The aviation sector contributes approximately $4.1 trillion to the global economy, providing significant
benefits to individuals, families, and communities through job opportunities and economic development,
according to Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the General Civil
Aviation Authority (GCAA).
Al Marri emphasized the aviation sector’s vital importance in the global economy, stating that it accounts
for 12 to 13 percent of GDP in various countries and supports millions of jobs around the world.
Boosting tourism through air travel
Speaking during the “ICAO Global Implementation Support Symposium 2025” and the “Global Sustainable
Aviation Marketplace” in Abu Dhabi, Al Marri highlighted aviation’s essential role in enhancing the tourism
sector, noting that 58 percent of international tourists depend on air travel.
He further explained that the sector’s efficiency allows businesses to connect with global markets, helps
tourists access destinations, and strengthens companies’ capabilities to reach clients and suppliers
worldwide.
