The challenge of rapid development

“One of the biggest challenges is the speed at which the region wants to move,” explains Dr
Sherrard. “There are huge ambitions, which is amazing—pushing the boundaries of what we want to
do. But keeping up with those ambitions and being able to deliver on them is quite a challenge
because you’re talking about an entire supply chain that needs to be aligned.”

This alignment often requires more than just technology—it demands a shared vision and effective
communication among all parties involved. “Understanding and getting everyone to speak the
same language to be able to deliver is quite difficult,” Dr Sherrard adds. “With new strategies and
ambitions, people can see a vision, but the implementation may be less clear. That’s where we
               come in.”

Fugro’s role is to bridge the gap between vision and execution, ensuring that data-driven insights
guide every phase of these monumental projects.

Fugro’s role across the project lifecycle

From the earliest stages of site characterisation to ongoing asset monitoring, Fugro’s
comprehensive approach ensures projects are not only delivered but also maintained to the
highest standards of safety and efficiency.

“We’re often one of the first people on-site,” explains Dr Sherrard, highlighting the company’s
foundational role in project initiation. “Whether it’s for infrastructure projects to enable safer
designs or offshore projects to understand what’s being explored, we collect the initial data that
sets the stage for everything that follows.”

Fugro’s involvement doesn’t stop there. The company continues to support clients during the
construction phase, ensuring safety and operational integrity. “If you’re constructing something,
we’re there to help ensure it’s done safely and effectively,” Dr. Sherrard says. “We manage ground
movement, monitor assets, and provide insights to prevent risks.”
Even after construction is complete, Fugro remains a vital partner, using advanced technology for
asset inspection and risk mitigation. “Once something is built, we can inspect for potential risks,
fatigue, or deformation,” Dr Sherrard notes. “This allows us to advise clients early, enabling them to
make informed decisions that extend the lifespan of their assets.”

What sets Fugro apart is its ability to seamlessly integrate data across all phases of a project. “Not
many companies can do what we do,” Dr Sherrard emphasises. “We offer full lifecycle support
across industries while turning complex datasets into actionable insights for our clients. That’s how
we help de-risk projects and optimise operations.”

               Data-driven decision-making

“The biggest part that brings it all together is when you have all that data and make it meaningful to
support the client in their decision-making,” says Dr Sherrard. Fugro’s expertise lies not only in
acquiring data but also in analysing and integrating it across multiple datasets to provide
actionable insights. “The complex part is getting that data to speak together, making it useful and
