The new fines and penalties to know about…
In case you missed it, there will now be a total of 10 Salik toll gates across Dubai, and as of June
2024, Salik has updated their rules. So to make things simpler for you, here we have collated all of
the new Salik toll gate rules and regulations to take note of.
A fine city
In the new terms and conditions of Salik, there is now a maximum fine limit per car. The fine limit
can not exceed Dhs10,00 in any given calendar year – from January 1 to December 31.
As a driver, you can get Sailk fines for breaching a number of different rules including:
• Driving through a toll gate with insufficient funds will result in a Dhs50 fine, but the fine will
only be imposed if you do not top up your balance within five days. There is also a maximum
of one breach a day for every car.
• If you drive through a Salik toll gate without a registered tag and do not register a tag within
10 days you can face a Dhs100 charge for the first breach and Dhs200 for the second
offence – after this a Dhs400 fine will be imposed for every subsequent time you drive
through a toll gate without registering in the Salik system.
• If you are found tampering with a Salik tag for fraudulent purposes you can be fined
Dhs10,000.
• A Dhs10,00 fine is also possible if you cause damage to a Salik toll gate.
Dormant accounts
If you’re like most Dubai residents and try to avoid roads with Salik tolls, or have left the country
without deactivating your account – a dormant account can be deactivated. If your Salik account is
inactive and there are no tolls, payments made or balance recharges registered to the account for a
period of five years then your Salik account will become inactive and you will lose any of the
remaining balance in your account.
