The European Union (EU) and the UAE have formally launched negotiations for a bilateral free
trade agreement (FTA), opening the possibility of the first comprehensive EU trade deal in the Gulf
region.

They have agreed on a "clear roadmap" for the FTA, with work set to begin in June, the EU's Trade
