Dubai to Pilot Shorter Work Week, Fridays Off
This Summer
The program, "Our Summer is Flexible," run by the DGHR, aims to improve employee
performance and quality of life.

The Dubai Government Human Resources Department (DGHR) announced that 15 Dubai

government organizations will trial a new work schedule from August 12 to September 30 .
Work will be suspended on Fridays, and daily hours will be reduced to seven.

The program, "Our Summer is Flexible," run by the DGHR, aims to improve employee
performance and quality of life.
The DGHR will evaluate the results and feedback to decide if the changes should be adopted as
a permanent policy for future summers.
In 2022, Sharjah introduced a four-day working week, following the UAE government’s shift to a
four-and-a-half-day workweek.
Recently, Dubai announced a major new quality-of-life strategy to enhance the well-being of the
emirate under the guidance of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice
President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai.
The goal of the strategy is to make Dubai the world's best place to live, work, and travel. The
plan includes an integrated roadmap for sustainable urban development in the city for all facets
of the community.
