ABU DHABI: The UAE is taking moon sighting to the next level with AI-driven drones, reinforcing its leadership in cutting-edge technology. The UAE
Council for Fatwa is deploying high-tech drones to spot the Shawwal crescent moon for 1446 AH, making it the first country to use artificial
        intelligence for lunar observation.
Following a successful test during Ramadan, the council is using multiple drones equipped with high-precision lenses launched from Al-Khatim
Astronomical Observatory. These drones will soar over 300 metres, using precise astronomical calculations to pinpoint the moon’s location. AI-
powered analysis will further refine images, ensuring clear and accurate visibility.

This breakthrough enhances direct visual observation, which remains the traditional confirmation method. The UAE’s innovative approach aligns
with the Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) guidance: “Do not fast unless you see the crescent of Ramadan, and do not give up fasting till
you see the crescent of Shawwal…”
By blending tradition with technology, the UAE is setting a global precedent in astronomical observation, proving that faith and innovation can
        go hand in hand.
