Recipients: At least two underprivileged individuals.
Obligation: Mandatory for all Muslims—men, women, young, and old—who are
financially able.
Deadline: Must be paid before Ramadan ends.
Expiation Amounts for Missed Fasts
The council has also outlined the compensatory payments (Fidyah and Kaffarah) for
those unable to fast or those who deliberately break their fast:
1. Breaking a Fast Intentionally
Payment: Dh15 per person for 60 individuals (totaling Dh900).
Alternative: 3.25kg of wheat per person.
2. Unable to Fast Due to Health or Other Valid Reasons
Payment: Dh15 per person, per missed day.
Alternative: 3.25kg of wheat per person, per day.
3. Missed Fasts Due to Death
If an individual passes away with unfulfilled fasting obligations, their next of kin must:
Pay: Dh15 per missed day, or
Provide: 3.25kg of wheat per missed day.
4. Delaying a Missed Fast Without Valid Reason
Payment: Dh15 per person, per missed day.
Alternative: 3.25kg of wheat per person, per day.
5. Breaking an Oath While Fasting
Payment: Dh15 per person for 10 individuals (totaling Dh150).
Alternative: 3.25kg of wheat per person.
Muslims in the UAE are urged to ensure their Zakat and expiations are fulfilled on time to
uphold the spiritual and charitable obligations of Ramadan.
