Sending money across countries may soon become faster and more affordable for millions of

users, with the launch of the UPI–UPU Integration project in Dubai.

The initiative, unveiled by Union Minister for Communication Jyotiraditya M Scindia at the 28th
Universal Postal Congress, connects India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) with the Universal

               Postal Union’s Interconnection Platform.

It has been developed by India Post, NPCI International Payments Ltd (NIPL), and the UPU.

By linking UPI with the global postal network, users will be able to send and receive cross-border
remittances through post offices at lower costs and with greater speed.

Since the UPU network spans over 190 countries, the system is expected to benefit migrant
workers and their families in particular, especially those in areas with limited access to banks.

Scindia described the launch as a step toward inclusive financial services.

“The reliability of the postal network combined with the speed of UPI means families across

borders can send money faster, safer and at much lower cost,” he said.

For users in India, this could mean more timely inflows of money from abroad, with fewer
deductions on transfer charges. The integration may also support small businesses and e-

commerce sellers who depend on overseas payments.

The project is part of India’s wider push to expand digital public infrastructure globally. According
to official data shared at the event, India Post delivered over 900 million letters and parcels last

year, while more than 560 million bank accounts have been opened under Jan Dhan and India Post
