The meeting will be chaired by scholar Shaykh Abdullah bin Al Shaykh Al-Mahfouz bin Bayyah, Chairman of the UAE Council for Fatwa. He
will be joined by Dr Omar Habtoor Al-Darei, Vice Chairman of the Council, and members who are specialists in Islamic jurisprudence, legal
studies, and astronomy.
Review of astronomical data and moon sighting feasibility
The committee will examine scientific data and detailed reports from specialised agencies regarding astronomical calculations, including the
timing of the moon’s birth, conjunction, and sighting feasibility. These analyses will draw from observations made by national observatories
using the latest advanced technologies and instruments after sunset on Tuesday.
Public encouraged to participate in moon sighting
The UAE Council for Fatwa has invited experts, traditional moon-sighters, and the public—both citizens and residents—to participate in
observing the crescent of Dhul-Hijjah 1446 AH after sunset on Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
