UAE, USA sign Joint Statement of Intent to accelerate patent grant procedures

emirates7 -The United Arab Emirates and the United States of America have signed a Joint Statement of Intent to establish a
bilateral cooperation programme aimed at speeding up patent approval processes in the UAE. The signing took place on the
sidelines of the 66th Assemblies of the Member States of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) in Geneva.

Under this agreement—signed by the UAE Ministry of Economy and Tourism and the United States Patent and Trademark
Office (USPTO)—the programme introduces collaborative mechanisms that allow the UAE to take into account positive
examination results from the USPTO for corresponding Emirati patent applications. This process will align with relevant
national legislation.

UAE Minister of Economy and Tourism, Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, stated that this initiative reflects the country's dedication
to strengthening its intellectual property ecosystem by implementing global best practices. The focus is especially on industrial
property rights and improving patent registration processes to meet the expectations of innovators, while delivering flexible and
efficient services that foster an innovation-led and entrepreneurial economy. These efforts aim to solidify the UAE’s status as a
regional leader in intellectual property protection.

He also noted that the collaboration with the United States marks a significant step forward in expediting patent approvals by
deepening international partnerships and integrating advanced operational frameworks. These enhancements are designed to
