                 Shaikha Al Nowais explores enhanced collaboration with WHO to

                                   bolster health security in global tourism



                            Meeting examines frameworks to embed health and safety protocols
                            within global tourism policies and enhance technical collaboration
                                                  between UNWTO and WHO



               Geneva, xx July 2025 – H.E. Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, Secretary-General-elect of UN Tourism
               for the 2026–2029 term, met with Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the
               World  Health  Organization  (WHO).  The  meeting  explored  opportunities  for  collaboration  to
               advance global tourism frameworks, with a focus on proactive, adaptable, and sustainable policies
               that prioritize public health and enhance living standards in destinations around the world. The
               discussion took place during an official UAE delegation visit to Switzerland, led by H.E. Abdulla
               bin Touq Al Marri, Minister of Economy and Tourism.



               H.E. Shaikha Al Nowais reiterated her commitment to strengthening collaboration with WHO to
               foster  a  more  resilient  and  sustainable  tourism  sector.  She  emphasized  that  public  health  has
               become a fundamental pillar of contemporary tourism development, particularly in light of the
               evolving challenges affecting global travel and mobility.




               H.E. stated: “As we move forward, we remain committed to forging stronger partnerships and
               establishing  an  institutional  framework  that  integrates  tourism  and  public  health.  By  working
               closely with international stakeholders, we aim to develop comprehensive, proactive protocols to
               address global challenges through innovative approaches to safe and sustainable tourism. These
               efforts will bolster traveler confidence, maintain resilient tourism supply chains, and ensure that
               health considerations are embedded within broader economic policymaking.”



               The meeting focused on developing concrete joint initiatives to enhance global tourism resilience
               during health emergencies. Key discussion points included modernizing preparedness systems,
               implementing rapid response mechanisms, and ensuring safe and responsible tourist mobility. The
