The 2024 Best Tekla Projects - ENGtechnica
involved wind tunnel tes ng to ensure sound
structural design with a 3D-printed model. It was
the blending of so much BIM so ware that
impressed the jury. The use of BIM, in all its
varia ons, allowed all stakeholders to see progress
throughout the construc on process.
Public Project: Sea le Aquarium Ocean Pavilion,
U.S.A.
Turner Construc on overcame serious challenges in
building the curvaceous 50,000-square-foot
aquarium expansion. The shell-like tank has no
straight edges. There were 229 panels designed
with Rhino and Grasshopper. A bidirec onal link to
Tekla Structures was needed to ensure consistent
geometry, make installa on sequence drawings,
and perform constructability analysis. Construc on
was aided by Trimble Connect and FieldLink, which
allowed construc on crews access to the latest 3D
models.
Industrial Project: Brewery Roman, Belgium
Belgium’s oldest family-run brewer, Brewery
Roman, makers of Gentse Strop and Ename beers,
needed to expand and double its produc on
capacity. The project involved preserving part of the
façade and reconstruc on of the rest, as well as an
overhaul of the beer produc on area with its 100-
year-old copper ke les. A LiDAR scan of the
building was merged with the BIM model so the
steel structure added would fit inside the exis ng
building. The installa on of massive precast
sec ons was modeled and animated with a Tekla
plug-in that was able to model crane movement
and loading – preven ng pping.
