in the World University Championships 2020, as well as participating in three world
championships, two of which were hosted by the UAE in 2019 and 2021.
Al Falasi said: “The Federation is working on enhancing our national teams and adding to the talent
pool from different ages by building up the spirit of athletic competitiveness among students and
showcasing the important role sports play in different aspects. This is in line with the sports sector’s
2032 strategy aimed at increasing levels of participation in the Olympics and establishing a suitable
environment for athletes to develop their physical abilities, in addition to creating a new generation
capable of making sports achievements that will bring pride to the UAE regionally and
internationally.”
The board of directors of the Federation includes H.E. Sheikh Suhail Bin Butti Al Maktoum,
Executive Director of the Sports Development Sector at the General Sports Authority; Azza bint
Sulaiman, Assistant Secretary-General for Administrative and Financial Affairs of the National
Olympic Committee; H.E. Dr. Amna Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary for Welfare
and Capacity Building Sector at the Ministry of Education; Mohammed Ahmed Almulla, Secretary
General of the Sharjah Education Council; Dr. Wafi Dawood, Chief Executive Officer of Strategy
and Planning Sector at the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) in Dubai; H.E.
Amer Al Hammadi, Undersecretary of the Department of Education and Knowledge in Abu Dhabi;
Eng. Khalid Kalbat, leading the Student Well-being Sector (Acting) at the Emirates School
Establishment (ESE); H.E. Mohamed Fadhel Alhameli, Chairman of the UAE National Paralympic
Committee; Shaza Al Malla, Director of the Department of Visual Arts and Design at the Ministry
of Culture and Youth; and Safa Taryam, Executive Director of the Elite and High Level Committee.
During the meeting, H.E. Sheikh Suhail Bin Butti Al Maktoum was assigned Secretary General,
and Ali Mesry Al Dhahiri, Executive Director of the Arab University Sports Federation, was
assigned Executive Director of the Federation.
This meeting coincided with the appointment of Al Falasi as Minister of Education, which only
enhances the level of coordination between the sports and education sectors and contributes to
achieving the goals of the Federation, which aims to organise student competitions to discover
talent at a young age and take the best 1 per cent of sports talent in schools and universities to
national tournaments. The Federation is looking forward to increasing interest in physical education
