Saudi German Hospital - Aseer Performs Complex Surgery To Save
Patient With Blocked Mitral Valve

Saudi German Hospital-Aseer recently achieved a remarkable medical feat by saving a patient
suffering from a blocked mitral valve due to severe calcifications and a blood clot. The patient also
presented with acute pulmonary oedema, severe heart muscle weakness, and atrial tachycardia.

The diagnosis was confirmed through a Transesophageal Echocardiogram and subsequent

catheterization, revealing that the mitral valve was malfunctioning due to calcifications. An expert
medical team, including cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, anaesthesiologists, and a blood bank, was
swiftly assembled. It was determined that immediate surgical intervention was necessary to save the
patient’s life.

Dr. Mohammed al-Raghi, Head of the Cardiology and Cardiac Catheterization Department, decided to

proceed with mitral valve replacement. This decision was particularly challenging because the patient
