UAE AND MAURITIUS SIGN ECONOMIC PACT TO
BOOST TRADE
ECONOMICS
23 JUL AT 12:03 AM
The United Arab Emirates and Mauritius have signed an economic pact aimed at
expanding bilateral trade, primarily in the financial, logistics and services sectors.
This is reported by Bloomberg.
According to the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade Tani bin Ahmed Al-Zeyoudi,
the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement is the first such deal between
the countries.
The agreement aims to increase non-oil bilateral trade between the countries to
$500 million in five years from $170 million in 2023. The pact will include trade in
petrochemicals, heavy engineering, precious metals and foodstuffs, with both
countries’ gross domestic product increasing by about 1 per cent by the end of the
decade.
“The focus of our relations with Mauritius is on
services,” Al-Zeyoudi said.
He said the agreement would pave the way for deepening trade with other countries
both in Africa and the Far East.
