6/10/25, 10:01 AM Abu Dhabi DoE completes Gas Systems Remediation Project - Emirati Times
As part of the Gas Systems Remediation Project, the DoE fixed 550 previously
undetected gas leaks. All gas filling lines were moved outside of buildings to
boost safety. The department also replaced more than 450 gas tanks and control
panels and installed over 10,000 gas leak detectors in kitchens.
Eng. Ahmed Alsheebani, Executive Director of the Petroleum Products Regulatory
Affairs Sector at DoE, stated that, “Abu Dhabi continues to lead in ensuring the
safe use of gas systems, recognizing gas as a vital resource that impacts various
aspects of daily life and plays a key role, alongside clean and renewable energy
sources, in supporting the stability of the energy sector.”
Alsheebani also thanked several key agencies for their support in making the
project a success. These include the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic
Development (DED), Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority (ADAFSA),
Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), Abu Dhabi Police, Abu Dhabi
Civil Defense Authority (ADCDA), and the Abu Dhabi Emergency, Crisis and
Disaster Management Center.
As part of the Gas Systems Remediation Project all property owners must sign a
yearly maintenance contract with a licensed gas operator approved by the DoE.
Property owners are further required to secure a No Objection Certificate (NOC)
from the DoE to confirm the safety of their gas systems. This certificate is now
essential to obtain the ISTIFAA certificate from the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense
Authority, ensuring compliance with preventive safety standards.
