WEF Special Meeting: Tourism plays key role in boosting growth, says economy minister

Tourism sector is expected to contribute $15.5 trillion to the global GDP by
2030
Al Marri states that the tourism sector is expected to employ around 430 million individuals globally
Abdulla bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy, led the UAE delegation at
the World Economic Forum (WEF) Special Meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. During
a session on the future of sustainable tourism development, Al Marri acknowledged
the tourism sector’s key role in boosting global economic growth. He also stated that
the sector serves as a key pillar in the achievement of sustainable development goals
(SDGs) by 2030. He emphasized that tourism contributes to sustainable development
by increasing revenues, attracting foreign direct investment (FDI), creating job
opportunities, establishing tourism ventures and enhancing transport infrastructure.
Other participants in the session included Ahmed Al Khateeb, Saudi Minister of
Tourism; Thiago Alonso de Oliveira, CEO of JHSF; Jerry Inzerillo, CEO of Al
Diriyah Group; and Aireen Omar, President and CEO of RedBeat Capital, Capital A
(AirAsia).
Tourism boost employment
During the WEF Special Meeting, Al Marri explained that the tourism sector
contributes to the growth of services and industries such as hospitality, transport,
